John Sun
Chief Executive Officer
John Sun has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Blueprint since 2014, leading the organization’s strategy and growth as a nonprofit real estate development and financing partner to public charter schools. Under his leadership, Blueprint has expanded its work beyond California to serve schools in Colorado, Texas, and Washington State and has broadened its capacity to provide facility technical assistance, project management, financing support, and direct investment to charter schools.
John oversees Blueprint’s overall organizational strategy, financial sustainability, regional growth, and partnerships with schools, funders, lenders, and other sector partners. During his tenure, Blueprint has significantly expanded its facility investment activities and its ability to provide schools with access to affordable capital alongside comprehensive real estate development services.
Before joining Blueprint, John worked within the Los Angeles Unified School District to fund innovative facilities solutions for charter schools. He also served as Vice President of New School Development at Green Dot Public Schools, overseeing growth strategy, advocacy, community outreach, and student recruitment. Previously, as Green Dot’s Director of Real Estate Development, he developed eight permanent charter school campuses in Los Angeles. His earlier experience includes community redevelopment and consulting with PwC.
John holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Southern California.
