Project Overview

High Rockies Community School is advancing a transformative facility project at Sacramento Creek Ranch in Fairplay, Colorado, creating a permanent indoor home base for its K–8 outdoor education program while deepening community connections to the land.

In partnership with the Mountain Area Land Trust, the school is renovating an existing barn into a multi-use Education Center that will serve High Rockies Community School four days a week and welcome local groups to learn from and celebrate the surrounding landscape. As enrollment demand has grown, the project responds to the school’s need for a larger, more functional space that supports year-round learning while remaining rooted in place-based education.

The project reached an exciting milestone with a recent groundbreaking, bringing together students, families, community partners, and local leaders in shared celebration. Himmelman Construction, Inc. is leading construction, and Blueprint is supporting the project by providing oversight and coordination of due diligence, helping ensure HRCS’s vision is carried forward with care and long-term sustainability in mind.

Scheduled to open in spring 2026, the new Education Center reflects a collective investment in learning in every season, enduring partnerships, and a facility that will serve South Park’s students and community for generations to come.

A wooden sliding barn door is partially open inside a wooden structure at High Rockies Community School. There is a red ladder on the right, a tarp on the floor, and an emergency exit sign above the door.
